for hegemony you could talk about how there is Ripper-style killer going around killing prostitutes recently and this could be because he trying to copy Jack the Ripper (1976)/ Jack the Ripper (1988) (TV) so that when he watched the film he is a passive audience and he took in the ideolgies of the text/film.
Even though Murdoch owns much of the media..it's the journalists that write the articles and they have relative independence from their bosses- thus allowing a range of opinions not those just of Murdochs!
What about the Guardian? Thats an independent newspaper which is read by the urban m/c which form much of the opinion thinkers..who in return cause social change and a wide range of opinions to exist.
Increase in subscription channels..people are picking and choosing media which conforms to their own values and beliefs.
i have a lot of research on arguments for hegenomy and look prepared.
Below is a passage i got from a BBC article and explained how murdochs ownership had resulted in the 'dumbing down'.

But, his many detractors would say, Murdoch's success has resulted in the dumbing-down of the media, with quality entertainment and journalism replaced by mindless vulgarity.

hegemony is not apparrent in media such as Internet, anybody can view their own opinions on this medium, there is no one dominant thought.

Nice work!
Murdoch owns Myspace and Youtube, but how does that fit into the hegemonic ideology? most people probably dont even realise he owns these sites
